Stock transfer

Moving stock from one of your locations to another, such as a warehouse to a shop, while keeping its batch, expiry and cost records.

Also called branch transfer, inter-store transfer, stock movement

A stock transfer moves goods between your own locations: a warehouse to a store, one store to another, or one warehouse to the next. Stock goes down in one place and up in the other, and the batch, expiry and cost should move with it.

Under GST, the paperwork depends on the registration. Moving stock between locations under the same GSTIN usually needs a delivery challan. Moving it to your own branch with a different GSTIN, such as in another state, is treated as a supply and needs a tax invoice. An e-way bill may also be needed above ₹50,000.

A business sends ₹2,40,000 of goods from its Mumbai warehouse to its Surat store, which is registered in Gujarat. That is an inter-state supply with IGST and an e-way bill. Kownt X transfers stock between locations with batch, expiry and cost intact.
